Not Nigella - Now With Added Dot Com!
Last week I discovered that there’s a very similar blog, both in name and subject matter, to my own, plus, the author lives just half an hour away from me. After having a little bit of a tantrum I put on my big girl panties, thought how I’m sure that Not Martha would probably conclude that I ripped her off if she stumbled on this site, but the truth is I didn’t discover NM until many months blogging at NN, and instantly felt somewhat lame and unoriginal, and I’m sure it’s the same case for my fellow domestic Sydneysider.
Just to make sure I did the internet equivelant of pissing on a tree and (finally) bought the notnigella.com url and fixed up domain mapping so as to remove all of the last traces of being a lame hosted blog and hopefully boost up my Alexa/Technorati/Google rankings.
This post should test that my feed url has updated correctly, but if you’re not getting feed updates then please update your readers to point to http://notnigella.com/feed and I would love you forever if you updated any sidebar/blogroll links to the new domain when you get a chance.

Hang In There Baby!
It is taking all my strength today to not put Sesame Street on repeat, spread some Cheerios on the floor and tell Declan to fend for himself while I lock myself in the bedroom with earplugs and an elephant size bar of Dairy Milk.
I did find some time, inbetween vomiting, cleaning up broken glass (a moments silence for my Ikea lamp please) and listening to the “I’m hungry, but as soon as you feed me I’m just going to throw it on the floor” whine, to finally get a new layout up, I loved the previous one at first, but after more than two months it was doing my head in, so I went for something far more subdued, something far less offensive for those that happen to stumble upon my blog whilst in the midst of a hangover.

And the most popular post with 218 views was the Fantabulous Pincushion Tutorial, even more impressive considering I posted it a week into December.
And NaBloPoMo Is Over
Finally! - Not that I’m complaining as such, I have enjoyed the challenge of coming up with something to say each day, and I’m fairly impressed that I managed every day with only has one one word post, and only two memes. Since Declan was born I had taken a step back from blogging, always making excuses that I just didn’t have the time - which in the early months was true, but this has forced me to make the time and I think it’s done a lot of good. Although I don’t intend to keep up the daily posting - some days it’s been a real struggle, and I think the quality has suffered for the quantity, I do intend to at least keep going every other day. I started this blog nearing the end of my pregnancy to document how life was changing, and the last month is probably the first time that I’ve really done that, reading back through the recent posts has really made me think how much I want to keep documenting these early years with my son, as much as I would like to slow it down, that’s just not going to happen, but I guess having a journal of it all to look back on is the next best thing.
And, the reason I will be doing it again next year, and the reason I would encourage anyone else to do it as well… these are my hit stats for the last year…

Sexy New Layout
Okay… so maybe it’s not sexy, but it makes me smile. I spent a couple of nap times working on this today, it was nice to actually do some design and css again, but it certainly reminded me just how rusty I’ve become. I used to be able to spend hours playing with site design and now I’m lucky if I get online long enough to catch up on a few blogs and read all my spam.
What I’m hoping is that I’ll be able to do a new design every month, at the moment I think it’s a bit of a pipe dream, but hopefully it will pan out, as I become less rusty it will take me less time.
Whilst we’re talking about websites, my big sister’s jewelery site, Moon-Silver.com is now up and running, although the shopping cart isn’t functional yet, you can still buy and order from her via email. Take a look at her jewelry and then buy lots of it each piece beautifully handmade with a lot of love put into it. I wore one of her sets for my wedding and it remains my favourite piece of jewelry still… and not just because it’s purple.
